Huge Protest against Minneapolis Police killing 46 year old George Floyd

Updated: May 28, 2020

Once again, another black man being killed by police has struck the world with anger. It was apparent that there was police-related killing in Minneapolis, MN, that took 46 year old George Floyd's life on May 25th. Citizens of Minneapolis took it to the streets to show that justice needs to be served. Even though four police officers were fired on May 25th, for being the reason for killing George Floyd, citizens still want justice. They demand that charges will be for all four of the Police Officers that were involved. As the video goes viral, you hear Floyd echoing the same aching last words as 2014 police killing victim Eric Gardner. Thousands of citizens protested on the streets of Minneapolis to show unity against this injustice. Victim George Floyd screamed,” I can't breathe” while there was a knee on his neck from one of the police officers of Minneapolis. With the pandemic continuing, protesters continued to follow social distancing rules by spreading out. Still, as the protest continued, the scene kept growing, and more people started to come and protest. As big as the crowd was getting, emotions were getting bigger too. People in the groups were chanting, "I can't breathe” and "It could've been me.” One protester stated, "We’re here to let them know this can’t be tolerated, there will be severe consequences if they continue to kill us; this will not go on another day.”

At about 6 pm, protesters began to march towards the 3rd Precinct, where the officers worked. At that moment, a smaller group of protestors separated themselves and started to vandalize the building, shattering windows and spray paint squad cars. With all the chaos, CBS Minnesota reported that one officer was injured. Andy Mannix, a reporter for the Star Tribune, posted his updates of the events on Twitter. Mannix claims he was shot in the thigh with a rubber bullet while covering the protest. He also took pictures of another man who was shot too with the rubber bullet, one in his torso, another on his arm. As more footage is shown, more and more people are being irritated. Police claim that Floyd "Physically resisted officers” before being taken to the ground and handcuffed. No footage as of yet shows any resistance to warrant the police actions. Police need to wake up and understand they can't continue doing this.
