New York Times has just released a report about the damage COVID 19 is doing to people of color in the United States. According to data, the New York Times sued the CDC for having access to knowledge that Black and Latinos people are contracting the virus 3 times more than Caucasians. The report also states that Blacks and Latinos are twice as likely to die from the virus. Experts are saying that the imbalance is there because minorities are more likely to work in the front line type of jobs that have a great amount of exposure to the virus or are exposed in residences where social distancing is lacking.
A Focus group of the New York Times report, Fairfax County in Washington, D.C. Latinos are developing COVID 19 four times the rate than White people despite having more whites in the area. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention fought to keep this from the public which forced the hand of the newspaper to sue the CDC to contain this information. Times reported that the CDC was missing race ethnicity and the county of residence data for “hundreds of thousands of cases.” It was a known thing that minorities are more at risk for the virus but with the New York Times laying out a better-detailed report, it shows more than half the U.S population.
