It was the fall of 2016 and Colin Kaepernick was the starting QB for the San Fransisco 49ers and instead of the following nationalism and being an "American" He kneeled during the national anthem and when asked why he responded "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color" After making this statement there were teammates of his who did the same and it eventually became a movement as some players from other teams began o kneel during the anthem.

This caused widespread controversy as politicians and most notably president trump called this a despicable act and even stated that any player who kneels should be banned from the NFL. As an avid NFL fan, I believe that players have the right to use that platform to share there thoughts and feelings to the masses.

Kaepernick played out the 2016 NFL season kneeling in every game and was released by the 49ers at the end of the season and has not played for an NFL team since. Even though Kaepernick had a bad couple of seasons after leading the 49ers to super bowl 47 he still has the physical attributes to be a starting QB that many teams would crave to have on their roster but besides a couple of workouts for a few teams, none of them have resulted in a signing. Kaepernick believes the NFL is colluding against him and his most recent Nike ad which garnered both positive and negative reviews led to some people boycotting Nike for being unpatriotic. Even with this controversy, I feel this was a good p.r move by Nike
