San Francisco elects first African American female London Breed

London Breed has been elected as the interim mayor of San Francisco taking the place of the deceased Mayor Lee who passed unexpectedly. Vowing to be the mayor for all of San Francisco, a message that resonates from her campaign as she sought to lead a thriving city economically but tainted by rampant homelessness, congestion, and homes which average residents cannot afford.

Mayor Breed is candid about her relishing a chance to send a message to S.F. youth who have grown up poor like herself that anything is possible through the dedication and hard work.

“No matter where you come from, no matter what you decide to do in life, you can do anything you want to do,” she said. “Never let your circumstances determine your outcome in life.”

Breed will fill the rest of Lee’s term, which ends in early 2020, and will need to run in November 2019 for a full four-year term.
