In America today there is a wave of division, mistrust, and violence between minority communities and police enforcement. This has been going on for many years in this country and finally came to the limelight in 1992 when Rodney King was beaten by LAPD officers and it was recorded and spread for the world to see. Now, today we see many headlines of young black men being killed by police officers and whose job is to protect and serve its seems as if the M.O is searching and kill.
This may be a harsh statement but as we have seen the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Philando Castile Alton sterling and the list continues to go on. I personally have had enough of it and as a young black man, I feel it is my responsibility to garner knowledge on this issue and use my writing as a platform to spark a change in the police enforcement tactics. I know there are highly respected movements such as #Blacklivesmatter and various organizations that bring a voice to the movement but has there been a change?
It is a lingering issue that must be addressed and as they say “Change begins at the top” I feel as if certain laws should be passed through congress which would implement new training regiments to police enforcement throughout the country. Leadership is at an all-time low in America and this is the time that as a community we stand and cut that supposed the odds are against me mentality and put the odds in our favor.
