Actress Mesha Millington, director Ron Elliot, actor Marquise Jackson, actor Ephraim Benton, and actor Leo Arias
Dope Vision in conjunction with KLPR Group held a private screening of the award-winning film, "Dope Fiend," at Tilly's in Brooklyn. The screening was followed by a Q and A from the cast and crew. The event was attended by press and media including legendary photographer Johnny Nunez of Getty Images.
Written and directed by Ron Elliot "Dope Fiend" interestingly touches on the socially relevant topics of gentrification as it chronicles the tale of a Brooklyn drug dealer, Profit who is engulfed in a battle against their highly ambitious landlord who is looking to clear tenants by all cost. Profit, an illiterate child born to dope fiend parents, is adamant about his responsibility to provide stability for his family, most importantly in the best interest of his grandmother who raised him.
Throughout the movie we are entertained by the action that surrounds his turf war with Santiago his arch rival, and kingpin in his own right. Aided by the revenge being sought by the companion, Isis, of his best friends Oscar who was murdered Profit handles his business by any means necessary. Based on "true events" as Ron Elliot describes, Dope Fiend delivers the depiction of the brutal truths of street life, bringing clarity to the burdens the life of the players lay on their friends, associates and loved ones. Betrayal, Love, Conspiracy are other themes readily evident as the plot runs it course with the aim at sparking discussion as an education on the streets is distributed.
'Dope Fiend' stars Malik Yoba (“Empire”), Tobias Truvillion (“Empire”), Andra Fuller (“Black Jesus”), Hisham Tawfiq (“The Blacklist”), Dutchess Lattimore ( Black Ink), Ephraim Benton (“The Place Beyond The Pines”) Sakina Deer and in his on-screen debut, 50 Cent’s son Marquise Jackson.
