Kony Brooks releases the official video for his single "Waist Trainer" Directed by Teddy Grahams
Of being arguably the best lyricist on the NYC indie or underground circuit. Applauded by many feared by some and intriguing to others. A Bronx native, Kony (King.Of.New.York) Brooks is a 90s baby born Andre Brooks in the Southern Blvd neighborhood of the South Bronx. A notorious neighborhood, to say the least, Kony Brooks chose sports and music over fast money and crime. A wise decision.
First grade would have Kony turn in a rhyme for a class project which took his classmates by storm. From that point, he had an idea of his love for Hip Hop. By his teenage years, he and the genre were inseparable. First gravitating to the music then the culture as a whole. By high school, Kony found his place in a home for talent known as Tha Works Records which was an extension of his school's music program. Teaming up with Jive Poetic who became a mentor Kony Brooks began to work on his craftsmanship wanting to elevate from mixtape bars to songwriting. His first official group was The Almighty Renegades which consisted of him, female artist Amazin and Zay Rhymes trading dope lyrics.
Soon thereafter Kony Brooks sharpened his business sense and created Inner City Music Group and later joined forces with Teddy Grahams, owner of Divisions of 2 Deep LLC. The collective is now known as ICMG / 2 Deep includes Swagg, JR Just Real, Diips, and Ray Fame all of whom are known citywide for tearing down stages. At the head of the crew, Kony Brooks reigns watching his buzz heighten as a result of his recent "All Hail the King" project release which features a sparring session with Mickey Factz.
